| Excalibur Farms News Updates 2/11/08 Raising Havanese is Lots of Havanfun |

| We created this page for easier updating of our own farm news as well as that of others. This way clients can keep track of what is happening around here and there normally is a lot going on at this place. One of the things we haven't had a chance to tell clients is that we have been inspected by AKC and passed without any problems. The inspector even liked our attempts at decorating the kennel, music for the dogs out there and how spoiled they all were either inside the house or out. A comment was made that our house has most certainly set up for catering to dogs. Does that mean we are dogs, or are dogs are treated like people? Hmmm. Lance turns 24 years old on Feb. 28th. The old man still has it all together and is doing very well. He looks like a much younger horse and races across the pasture as always. The only thing he doesn't have are mares. Shhh! We are not telling him the male dogs are seeing any action. Who wants a jealous stallion? Our news here runs about the same. I try to stay off the injured list and recover from much needed knee surgery while taking care of Mom and the animals. Over a year later I'm still struggling with the knee. Due to a rotated sciatica joint I can no longer ride and decided to put Dakota up for sale. He has a lot of good years left for fun and riding and I hate to see him go to waste. Besides he is bored in the pasture. We have not had a litter of Shepherd pups in almost 2 years since I have not been up to caring for large breed puppies. I appologize for all of you who have been waiting for pups from us, even repeat clients. The Havanese have been producing well, sometimes too well. That Deuce is a sneaky one and I have found that small dogs can be just as determined as large ones when it comes to the girls. We now have enough females to rotate them around giving our girls a lot of rest between litters. I never liked continually breeding even the mares, back to back and have always felt that the babies are better quality if the mothers are allowed to rest. It holds true for the dogs as well. We have already had storm damage this year and spring hasn't even arrived. We lost a large window during a severe thunderstorm. Actually the hail didn't break it, the wind did by sucking out huge sections of the glass. Mom and I were both frightened and the Havanese stayed around my feet. Even big tough Tundra remained in the office away from the hail and other damage. I was the lucky one who got to climb up a ladder and remove the colored glass bottles from the window sill before the wind blew them across the living room at us. I just love heights. A week later we are still waiting for the window to be replaced and the creaking of the plywood covering it reminds us too much of the sound of glass being sucked out. We do have interesting times around here. We still hear from many of our well placed doggies and horses (from years ago). So happy to announce that Peppermint has made the transistion from endurance horse and broodmare to english and western show horse with her young owner. Congratulations on your wins Miranda and Peppermint. Bandit and Topaz have given their new family an adorable litter of pups. One was even born in 4 year old Jet's lap. He was one happy kid and took good care of the puppy. Naturally, he wont let his parents sell that pup. Keep in touch, we love to hear from you. Lynne |
